Remembering the Naval Armed Guard on Veterans Day, Nov 11, 2017

The U.S. Navy Armed Guard was a special service branch of the U.S. Navy responsible for defending U.S. and Allied merchant ships, their valuable cargo, and crews from attack by enemy aircraft, submarines, and surface ships. In World War II, nearly 145,000 men served in the Naval Armed Guard, including Gunner’s Mate and Bronze Star recipient Bill McGee.

The Naval Armed Guard motto: “We aim to deliver!”

And we did.

  1. My father was Armed Guard 1944-46. He never spoke of his service and it was only recently I learned this from his old papers. I am so proud of him and the other men of the guard.

  2. Congratulations Gunner’s Mate Cowboy Bill . . .
your service was profound . . . thank you and Happy Veterans Day !
    Love John & Donna
