“I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas” U.S. Navy-style

A friend shared this video with me of the U.S. Navy Band’s rendition of the Irving Berlin classic I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas… It brought cheer into my day and I hope it brings cheer into your day…

Postscript: See below for an Irving Berlin-Reno divorce connection…

In August 1949, composer Irving Berlin and his wife, the former Ellin Mackay (granddaughter of John W. Mackay, the Comstock Bonanza King), and the Berlins’ daughter, Mary (Berlin) Burden, checked in at the Cal-Neva Lodge for a threefold purpose. Mr. Berlin was there to work on his next Broadway musical. Mrs. Berlin to do research for a biography of her grandfather. And Mary… to establish residency for a Reno six-week divorce.

– From the upcoming book, Pages From the Reno Reporter – Gossip, Scandal, and Other Newsworthy Items, 1947-1949 (working title) by Sandra V. McGee.
